Hi Newbie from Leicester, have been a few times before and would like to take paintball up as a hobby (not that i dont have enough already) lol
any way im 28 from Leicester
Im going paintball in Leicester at the end of the month and im after a mask. I was pointed in this direction by GodForbid on P8int.
So any advise is very welcome, my budget for a mask is £50 give or take and im after a thermal lens in that price as i ware contacts when i play it would be handy if i could use my glasses some times.
Thanks in advance UGE

Hey UGE Well you'll fit right in here mate. This team was set up for new players who want to take it up as a proper hobby and need people to play with regularly, and although we have experienced players the majority are relatively new! And again, although this is "Northants" giants we have members who're from Leicester and other places, we have a few people who've played at Rebel sports a few times too! I know you said you had plans for Paintfest, but you should definitely look into it, it's a fantastic event and you'll meet a few members of the team there Giving you the chance to hold and try out a few masks, markers, kit etc to better help you chose what you want to buy for yourself. Anyway, welcome to the forums

lol its a pain that the other halfs birthday is the same weekend else i would have came along even just for a day lol. Basicly im after a cheepish good mask that i can get for going there, (Camo would be grate) some of here friends seem to have an issue with me at the moment so as any bloke who has a marker in his hand would i intend to put as much paint on them as i can next year im trying to arange to go paintball form my best mates stag do, as well as trying to get out more and go balling. I know its a silly idea buy before you try but then again theres always ebay lol. The mane thing im seeing with masks is that on the side view theres not much protection if your have your mouth open and im worried that being a bit bigger around the neck than your average bloke i might get slotted there. do you have any recomendations on what would be better/where to get them from? Cheers UGE

Hello and welcome Uge,
General rule of thumb when looking at a set of goggles is to try on as many as possible, Everybody's head and face is different, there for what are great for some can be terrible for others. getting to a site and asking players and marshals to try on their sets is probably the most efficient and cheap way of finding out what fits YOU best. Always go for comfort over style as its no good looking cool if your forever adjusting your goggles just to get them to sit right on your face. Always go with a dual layer lens as these will help no end with the fogging up issues that you get with rental goggles... That being said, some people still steam up sometimes with dual layers lenses, it all comes down to how much you perspire as an individual.
Can i ask when your next paintball outing is ? Your not that far from me and i now get sets of second hand goggles in for the marshals that I work with, so at any one time I usually have 3 or 4 different sets in the house. If you were passing this way, (Derby/Notts borderish) I would happily let you try some on so that you would get an idea of the sort of thing you are after.

Cheers UGE The p8ntballer forums are a great place to buy second hand stuff, and personally I would definitely recommend buying second hand, atleast until you get into the sport properly. You can get i4's and Events and other top end masks for reasonable prices second hand in great condition on there. I can see a few for sale on there now. The most important thing is finding one that's a thermal lens so that it doesn't fog up, which of course i4's are. Don't worry about getting shot in the side of the face etc, you will get shot everywhere... I mean in the worst possible places and you will get used to it lol. It doesn't hurt that much. Anyway, good luck finding something.
