I genuinely believe they did hold back because when I made my break I wasn't met by them running towards me as I did all day.
It's just not the sort of thing that a team that just won there first game wants to hear is it?
I'm an easy going person and don't really get offended or upset where as someone else may have gotten very defensive.
I simply chuckled because you just don't expect to hear that sort of thing said whether they did or not. Especially straight after the wiping and chrono business.
Like I said, I believe they were holding back though.

If it is true I would rather lose playing as a team than be given a win! Takes the shine off what I thought was a good win.

Oh and the helicopter game was easily the best and most enjoyable game for me. First time playing a game like that and it's works so thank you for that game alone

Would like to make a couple of points, but briefly as I am on my phone typing this.
The incident in field pointing out a break on the mask was totally unrelated to the general address in the safe zone: if you thought that was aimed directly at you guys that was not the case. Plain and simple. If was aimed at everyone in the room. None of us want any cheating going on. If you felt it was aimed squarely at you then please accept an apology. I have not for one second thought Northampton Giants are cheats. Hopefully that puts that one to bed.
As for the second point; on the field in the final game I did indeed ask Courtney and Ryan to hold back wanting you guys to get a proper foothold on the field. You guys not only did that you also continued that throughout the game, indeed playing very well. I didn't want reds being dominated in that game and finishing on a low. As it happened i need not have worried, a fact I didn't have the powers of foresight to know. Reds played very well in the final game and dominated the field through good well organised play.
At the point you over heard my conversation with Courtney, that was only a small part of the conversation, but enough hopefully to realise no malicious thoughts were meant.
Some superb firefights today. I felt today was very very good, but maybe that is not the case if I have upset people inadvertently.

Tack from me and maybe some of the others, but we will see
I am glad we were kept together as I could watch the whole team and how they play.
I am also glad that the end game went the way it did. Without us having the thought of winning the team whould not of comunicated so well. It has shown everybody what they could do, and therefore will hopefully do again. As a new team I believe that Papa and yourself helped us a hell of alot.

Oh yes, in the pub afterwards Rob did say that once you guys moved up in that last game you then got yourselves into positions where they just couldn't shoot you out. I'm assuming that was defending the flag on your colour?
EDIT: Rob has posted himself in the meantime. James, as with any sport, sometimes an opponent will decide to back off slightly to give you an opportunity to get into the game properly. It's a kind of coaching to allow improvement. Sounds like you'd started to gel anyway by that last game. It'll take time as you've got new people all the time so you've all got to fit together. You're doing the right thing, playing lots! :-)

Yes Mick. Defending the flag on the final game was dominated by reds.
Not only in good field positions but in numbers too.
What I didn't say was the in field chrono made me very happy indeed - not a single hot marker.

I think we were putting the netting up at the back of the BBQ area and I remember thinking 'If only 4 blues came down the back and fanned out behind the Reds, they'd all be heading back to respawn'
Having the whole area properly netted is going to open up that narrow channel for just that kind of manoevre. Should make things interesting in future. Just need that other field opening up now too. ;-)

As has been explained we're a new team made of (mostly) new players, we're learning, we will make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. The only worry was that not everyone in the room knew that and we didn't want anyone getting the wrong idea, which I am sure they didn't anyway. Like I said it's really no problem, and infact has helped us as we have all learned a little from it. Mick, you are not to blame for anything either - there really is no issue. You guys put on a fantastic day and we really had a good time, so thank you all very much!

Getting a toe hold and pushing forward on an opponent is always a brilliant feeling and spurs you on.
Conversely, getting battered and not being able to move is demoralising and can lead to a sense of just giving up and not bothering.
I remember District 10 in 2010. One of the first games we led at. There was a cock up with the start and the other side were moving before we were let go by our marshals. In the first few minutes we were overwhelmed and pinned down at our in field respawn. We were all wondering what the hell had just happened as we were just stuck and surrounded. We finally drew ourselves together and got a plan. We just kept pushing out, constantly respawning as we were shot, and very slowly made ground and fought our way back on to the field. It was hard and painful but it worked. The change in feeling from a downer to a huge high was amazing. That mentality continued throughout the day and we played what I still think is the best game we ever have to date. With the help of some other good teams we dominated the day, with the whole field lit in our colour.
That first few minutes was a real eye opener as it could have all become different. The hardest thing is to find something when you're down, rather than winning. Sometimes it can look like you've no chance but you can turn it round completely by getting a simple plan together and being aggressive and relentless.
You guys are doing exactly the right thing; playing lots! You have keen players who are getting out to games. Keep doing that and it will click, just like you saw it starting towards the end of today. Then it'll be a case of refining who's best at doing what. You'll have fast runners to push up and the supporting fire to cover then and follow on.

Just to make a couple of points:
1) Safety briefing at the start will cover what constitutes a hit and what does not etc. There was some confusion on the day and we obviously made some assumptions of peoples knowledge. We will ensure this is covered in future. 2) This was a walk-on. It was not a rental game. Even in big games on much bigger sites where the marshalling ratio is very low, self marshalling is important. Shouting to a team mate helps for self checking. Also carrying your own micro-fibre onto the field is essential for goggle cleaning. At the re-spawn point clean yourself down and re-enter the game. 3) There will be times that you miss being hit - it happens. But at least if you have cleaned yourself down from previous hits it will be clear and you don't get the confusing "that was a previous hit". (I am not saying that one wasn't by the way). It makes it easier all around. In a big game a marshall WILL send you back to respawn - fact. 4) My general address for 'playing on' was just that - to raise awareness for everyone so that everyone looks after each other. Nothing more. Nothing less. 5) I was concerned all day that sides were evenly matched. No one wants their arse handed to them all day. This happened in the first two games - and I wanted as far as possible to ensure it didn't happen in the final games. (The helicopter attack/defend games were different as sides were mixed up nicely). The final game we did a head count, and blues then had a few more players arrive at game on. I took a decision to hold back the three rebels at game on - something that Courtney gave me grief for after the game!! I wanted to make sure we didn't own the field again. What happened, as it turned out was Red's pulled together and played a very good game indeed. Taking up defend-able positions and also supporting those positions, something that Blue's could not counter. The field was effectively closed down. Even if I had not asked Courtney and Ryan to hold back, Red's would have had the organisation and communication to hold their own in the last game. I guess only hearing a part of a conversation (one which continued in the car on the way home) can maybe lead to wrong conclusions being drawn on the intent. 6) Teams have a responsibility to ensure that its own members know the basics of scenario play and it's associated standards. Yes - different sites/scenarios/games may have specific rules - but the basics should be in place. For new players there should be an 'induction process' for the want of a better expression. This will ensure those basics are in place prior to attending an event as part of the team.
On the whole I thought the day ran well and people enjoyed the day they had. There a few points that could do with refining (one of which was discussed above).
Walk-ons at Warfighters will continue to evolve as the site evolves. Having had discussions with both Dave and Mick, there are plans that will ensure every Rebel walk on at Warfighters will provide something different from the time before. Dave loved the E-Flag (something he had not seen in action before and something we have not seen the like of anywhere else before) and would like more. Mick and I have discussed a few things that we would also like to add to the mix to make Warfighters a leading site, providing a hi-tech and prop rich environment in which to test not only yourselves, but also your team.
As a team, we have a unique and strong relationship with Warfighters and Dave. It was a shame in a way that we only had three of us playing for the majority of the day (one of our guys had to leave after the first game), and two marshalling for a while in the morning. I know we have a good number of members who, for one reason or another, could not make yesterday, but are itching to play at Warfighters again.
We also had a number of players yesterday who are aspiring future Rebels. They, like Northampton Giants, gave a good account of themselves on the field.
Next season, all being well, you will meet more of the Rebels. It is sometimes difficult to get the entire team together as we have members from as far north as Scotland, and as far south as Southampton.
Personally, I can not wait until next year. It should be a corker. I would hope that Northampton Giants will make more of our Walk Ons. If you continue the progress that was clearly made yesterday, your team will also have a good year next year.

All i have to say on the matter is I had a great time yesterday, even when we got demolished the first games lol. We as a team played as any other random 15 people all playing for the first time together played (shit). This is to be expected and if people think otherwise then you need to have a word with yourself. The last game was better (even if they held back a little) but there was lots of room for improvement and there always will be. I did hear a few people moaning and my thoughts were if you dont want to be here FUCK OFF simple I am very much looking forward to playing as a team again and also looking forward to playing at Warfighters and with the Rebels. Thanks again
